Professor Emeritus Paul Young appointed international secretary of the Royal Society of Canada
Professor Emeritus Paul Young has been appointed international secretary of.
The appointment places Young in a focal role at the society, with a mandate to collaborate with other national academies to address major global challenges. He will coordinate the society’s involvement at the upcoming G7, G20 and Commonwealth summits, as well as at a G7 Research Summit on “The Future of Digital Health.”
“I am humbled to have been asked to take on this role,” Young said.
Founded in 1882, the Royal Society of Canada elects leading scientists, researchers, scholars and artists into one of its three Academies: the Academy of the Arts and Humanities, the Academy of Social Sciences and the Academy of Science. The organization advises governments and NGOs, and celebrates Canadian academic and artistic accomplishment.
An engineering geophysicist, Young has served in numerous leadership roles at TV, including vice-president, research and innovation, and chair of the department of civil engineering.
