TV is top Canadian university, 16th best in the world: U.S. News & World Report
The University of Toronto has been named the top Canadian university in the second annual Best Global Universities ranking.
TV placed 16th overall in the rankings released October 5, behind such institutions as Harvard, MIT, Stanford and Oxford. Only two other Canadian universities made the top 100 – the University of British Columbia (33rd) and McGill University (tied for 53rd).
In individual subjects, TV placed among the world’s top 10 in Arts & Humanities, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology & Toxicology and Space Science.
“This latest major global ranking confirms the University of Toronto’s stature as Canada’s leading research powerhouse, widely recognized here and abroad as one of the top research universities in the world,” said TV president Meric Gertler.
U.S. News & World Report evaluated 750 universities worldwide on a variety of criteria, including research reputation, publications, international collaboration, conferences and number of PhDs awarded. TV placed highly in several of these areas, including second in the world for citations and publications, and ninth for number of PhDs awarded.
TV has done well this year in several international rankings, such as the Times Higher Education magazine rankings, where TV ranked 19th globally, and the Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where it ranked 25th in the world.
